It was my complete pleasure to receive Maria Semple, writer/novelist, into our store. Her debut novel: This One is Mine is available through Amazon now and everywhere soon. Curiosity guided me to the virtual book selling halls of Amazon where I found a five star customer review, speckled with wonderfully effusive phrasing like: "compulsively readable" and "crackles with authenticity." The combination of meeting Maria and reading the review of her book has launched This One is Mine to the top of my "to read" list.
Back to Maria in our store. Stylishly, she was purchasing glassybaby trios of Pumpkin, Big Sky and Pool. They were to be thank you gifts to colleagues who provided marketing reviews and support to Maria's novel endeavor. The special aesthetic twist to the gifts? The trio of colors matched beautifully the Hopper-esque cover art of Maria's book. I love it.
A glassybaby 'lifer' and friend to Lee, Julie Blackwell, conveyed a great visual and story to us. Her daughter Maisy, cutie pie and aesthete in training, regularly make believes that she is running a glassybaby store out of the family living room. When her mom walks through the room...Maisy 'sells' her glassybaby (that she already owns.) The story unfolded to us as Julie was in our real store to exchange one color. The base of the glassybaby still had a customized tag made by Maisy...5 bucks...priceless story.
Part of our sales team includes the ever lovely Elizabeth. She is earnest and smart. She works diligently, always smiling. At any rate, she has been helpful to us lately with overflow work in our shipping world. My favorite work moment of the week just occurred involving a conversation between Erin (shipper extrodinaire) and Elizabeth (overflow angel.) Erin was trying to schedule Elizabeth for a particular Sunday morning shift. Elizabeth said that she was not available until the early afternoon as she will be running a marathon on that morning. Shouldn't there be pasta involved in the post marathon hours? Naps? Medallions on ribbons? Just so you know...we are blessed by the greatness of our work force.
glassybaby secret: we have a new color named Zoe...it is green and sparkly and it is a beauty.
Until Next Time, Nicola
