As the rain unrepentantly falls on Seattle and as my pen falls to this blog page, thousands of glassybaby, palletized (I love this verb,) are on their way to the Big Red Apple. You, carry-on and a last minute Orbitz plane ticket...still have time to join our seminal NY trunk show. It should be a swanky, candlelit evening, with wine flowing, a chance to buy glassybaby in New York City. Most importantly, ten percent of all purchases during the evening will go directly to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Details follow:
- compass: Pasanella and Son Vintners, 115 South Street
- clock: 6pm-9pm (after-party at Liza Minelli's penthouse, when she will sing...you know...just kidding)
- calendar: Thursday, November 13th
We hope to see you there.
Other glassybaby minutes... Months ago, Lee conjured a wonderful idea of giving...to partner with the Seattle Veterans Hospital and give funds to unrestricted cancer care. Think bus fare, money for food, motel rooms, anything germane to the journey through cancer treatment that is not typically covered by medical insurance. This vision has wonderfully been realized. Our stemless glassybaby, named 'drinkers,' rolled out in June, will generate funds for this worthy cause. Anytime, any drinker is sold, ten percent ($5) will go directly to the VA.
Marissa, glassybaby marketing maven, has worked closely with the marvelous Linda Reed on establishing this new program. Apparently when the phone rings at the VA someone answers. There is always a voice on the line, and in our experience, a receptive, communicative, gracious new partner in giving has been found. We are thrilled. (Footnote: 'drinkers' are found online by clicking 'accessories.')
Endnote, and I swear there is a hip hop song in this entitled: 'Working O.T. for the glassy-b.' It was my pre-lunch pleasure to help two customers who labored with glee to each find the perfect glassybaby set. Banter ensued as usual, and it was wonderful to learn that one of the women, who works at a local high school, had worked overtime to buy herself an indulgent trio of glassybaby. She had studied our website for months and was finally in our store with the cold green cash. This was an encampment to match all others. Finally, I had to bid the two customers adieu and good luck as I departed for lunch... only to be welcomed back from lunch by them. We just had to giggle at our hours spent together. The final decision on the overtime trio?... a stunning mix of: Jane's Caramel, Roots and Jefferey. The roots of a burgeoning collection charmed us.
Until Next Time, Nicola
