In December we had a lovely showing of Martino Hoss' paintings in our Madrona store. His medium is chalk pastels on copper. As Martino describes it, rather than brushes, he uses his hands and finger strokes to incarnate the landscapes he dreamily creates. glassybaby in December were dating Martino's paintings. They really look stunning together. The sweet send up?...A gentleman came into glassybaby and decisively bought a diptych of the paintings to be hung side by side. One included my favorite called: "Passing Through." The paintings were to be a 15th wedding anniversary present for the gentleman's wife. Priceless.
Speed forward...sweetly, we intersect with Martino all of the time and we regularly get wet kisses from Bailey his golden retriever puppy (a.k.a. glassy Bailey.) On a recent visit, Martino implored Marissa to come quickly to a window ledge in our store. Inquisitively, Marissa came forward. Martino had spied something beautiful. The cathedral of a tree, rooted outside of our store window has gorgeous branches, studded with hopeful buds of spring leaves to come. Standing before 5 glassybaby in the store, Martino pointed out to Marissa the refraction of inverse branches in the base of the glassybaby, making the glassybaby into quasi fauna sprouting roots. We adore the Martino lens.
Ideas fly around here wonderfully. One great notion put on the table recently?...Get a wrapped glassybaby car to drive around town, kinetic marketing at its best. The cherry on top would be the real glassybaby hood ornament that would light up at night of course...great visual.
Another customer implored that we absolutely need an 'economic stimulus' gift set. For the pessimists we decided upon:
- haze
- cloud
- sour apple
For the optimists we decided upon:
- fertile
- dream
- warm gravy
There is always a holiday in the wings. Don't forget to honor your inner shamrock. Think...kelly, verdant, zoe, fertile, spring green etc.. Our green glassybaby are patriots of St. Patrick's Day. Don't get pinched.
Until Next Time, Nicola
