I received a wholesale inquiry this week from Lewiston, New York, a stone's throw from Niagra Falls. The conversation was delightful. I can never get enough of a deeply embedded New York accent. When I mentioned the possibility of sending samples to this shop owner, she declared that this was not necessary...imminently she would purchase 7 glassybaby, and they would double as samples. On a dime our chat went from business to pleasure. For 17 years, Cheri, her sister and 5 treasured friends, make a yearly pilgrimage to join each other for a weekend. They exchange gifts and sororal merriment. Cheri and I chuckled at the notion of this group's champagne evolution. To explain...they have gone from camping and exchanging pens to renting a 5 star house and bearing special gifts, lovingly chosen with a 'pull out the stops' spirit. This year Cheri will give glassybaby and maybe even carry us in her glorious New York boutique. I am willing to hand deliver glassybaby cross country...just to meet Cheri.
Kim, our beyond supreme shipping plus, glassybaby treasure, regularly lets me peruse the myriad web orders for blog inspiration. The orders always display a tableau of varietal meaning and this week was no exception. Someone with a strong marital union was sending a wedding gift to a young, newly married, couple with the wish: 'May your union be as strong or stronger than ours.' The glassybaby colors chosen?...happiness and fireball. Another wedding gift package was setting sail. A new Floridian customer discovered us in an article in the Orlando Sentinel. She revealed that she will start her collection soon; however a wedding present for her daughter's best friend took precedence. She sent a combination of peony and sea glass, as the wedding was pink and the honeymoon was tropical. So sweet. Birthday gifts were in multiplicity in this week's orders. Two other orders included the glassybaby gratitude. One was a thank you for a sumptuous home cooked meal. The other gratitude was a thank you for the herculean task of helping someone move. We really love the rainbow of orders and the colorful fabric they weave. Thank you.
Small anecdote... I just helped a darling couple with an exchange of three glassybaby. They were beaming and came in with friends. I learned that they are still riding the wave of their last Sunday nuptials. Riding the wave indeed...last week we experienced biblical rains...on their wedding day. We agreed that it was passionate, committed rain. Beautiful. We wish them complete joy.
Remember to join us in Bellevue next Thursday, if you are local. We will have a great Grand Opening Extravaganza to celebrate our Bellevue presence. Come to 10230 Main Street between 5pm and 8pm...we'll serve chilled white wine, and delectable bites from our lovely food neighbor Monsoon. Some sort of giveaway will be included. Ten percent of all sales generated from the evening will benefit both Overlake Hospital and the American Cancer Society's Stride Right event. Hope to see you one week hence.
Until Next Time, Nicola
