Sarah's Strength...Sweetness...Bag Cleansing...Dance by the Light of

   Just new to our shelf today and added to our pantheon of 'giving' glassybaby is the fresh and gorgeous duo named, "Sarah's Strength." The meaningful story that lies within?...We have come to know the bright light that is Sarah Mary Hughes. Sarah (9 years old) is courageously battling brain cancer. Her wisdom beyond years, her strength and her absolutely discerning eye for color have lead to this Sarah's Strength duo of first kiss and burnt sugar glassybaby. The color choice was absolutely, un-categorically driven by the wonderful spirit and eye of Sarah. Colors were lit and unlit. Colors were taken home and viewed in our store. The process was rigorous...the quest for the perfect Sarah combo was in earnest. Pink was apparently a 'shoe in.' The complimentary color was more of a complex choice. It needed to resonate with Sarah and resonate with its mate...first kiss. In a stroke of brilliance, burnt sugar was chosen. It is a stunner duo. We are blessed with sweet customers all of the time. I took note of sweet cubed this week:

• First Sweetness...On a gorgeous day with customers in the store, one wonderful customer entered expressly to recycle. She had a large bag full of empty white glassybaby product boxes and said: 'Can you use these? They are pristine. I can't throw them out, they are too beautiful.' We love the green impetus.
• Second Sweetness...Another customer chose her perfect glassybaby and forfeited the bag that we provide. She proclaimed: "I'm bag cleansing."   
• Third Sweetness...Judy, a valued customer, shopped at our Bellevue store with a gift card. Upon realizing our partnership with the Cancer Center at Overlake Hospital, she wanted us to donate the balance on her gift card to Overlake. I have a call in to our accountant. It can be done somehow. We love the spirit of giving in this...so sweet.    

   We are bag cleansing internally. Our vellum bags with rope handles are really lovely, but not integral to our green bent. Our shipping boxes fold in on themselves, requiring only a small swath of tape. They are highly recyclable with no bubble wrap and no peanuts. Our product boxes are built from recycled material and are recyclable...no plastic. And our new bags for retail will be made of craft paper with our signature, ever changing colored, glassybaby sticker. Small changes that feel big and green.

   End note. I can not resist sharing an excerpt from a web order. A lovely Connecticut customer, sending a dear Illinois friend a birthday glassybaby with a missive said this:

"I've danced by the light of my glassybaby throughout the seasons. ( You should just see me on  my deck!) Please think of me when this wonderful candle lights your world!"

Dancing on the deck logged in as my favorite visual of the week. Tied for favorite visual is imagining our doors opening in New York City. Our footmen are working on the deal and more news on NYC will come in next week's blog. Stay tuned.

I found you through the NY Times Home section today and had to shop immediately. Inspired by your story, Lee, I bought two glassybaby votives to give light and joy to two friends who are fighting cancer themselves ... I know the glassybabys and your story will help in their fight.

A cancer survivor myself, I just know your lights are the perfect antidote to chemo/radiation blues!
