On my way in this morning, I could not resist reaching down to pluck a few gorgeous specimens from the deciduous carpet that we arrive to every day, lining the side walks of Madrona. The fallen leaves are still pristine and vibrant, pre-detritus. On a lark, I went to our shelves, choosing glassybaby colors to match the leaves (see photo.) The colors from left to right are:
- curry
- creme brulee
- lemon drop
- autumn
- harvest
- devil dog
Despite biblical rains yesterday, the skies opened up and ushered in a vibrant and anticipatory couple. They entered the store wide eyed and smiling. We had the best time together. What I learned...they hail from Little Rock Arkansas (both originally from North Carolina.) They made their vacation destination...Seattle, glassybaby and the San Juan Islands...smart. They arrived in the store at about 12:30 pm, giving themselves plenty of time to shop and make their 4:15 pm ferry. Heidi is an unabashed, glassybaby super fan/collector (I repeat...vacation destination...glassybaby.) And she is a sophisticate of glassybaby color. She has the range, transparent to opaque. It was easy for her to navigate our shelves while describing the variety of color in her collection. Think truffle, molten, fertile, pearl etc...Heidi saw Lee on the Martha Stewart Show in September of 2005 and the rest is history...she loves glassybaby. Serendipity, Lee popped into the store and it was a lovely convergence. Heidi and her husband, Chris, chatted with Lee and the outcome? If we open a store in Little Rock, we know who will manage it. What a marvelous visit.
Another store encounter that just tickled me...a couple was in with a twofold glassybaby agenda. First they picked out the perfect black cat glassybaby for their young son Nicholas, a color he had been coveting for months. October seemed to be the appropriate timing for this gift's fruition to this glassybaby junior varsity member. I love it. Then the wife spent time picking out three. Her husband convinced her to add a fourth, very sweet. She quipped as we reconciled: 'I was a cheap date, but I am an expensive wife.' (With great taste.)
Endnote...Last week it was so exciting to see enormous mounds of glassybaby product and provisions, 'palletized' by the brilliant and ever dogged Addato team, with the receiving address of 555 Hudson Street, New York, New York. Wow...we are on the way.
Stay warm. Until Next Time, Nicola
