On Wednesday November 24th, the day before Thanksgiving, a critical mass of glassybaby luminaries gathered throughout the day to box our golden ticket glassybaby gift packs (300 strong.)They would launch on Black Friday, November 26, notably one of the biggest shopping days of the holiday season. For the morning installation of 'boxers,' lovely treats were provided to us by Valerie, including the lark purchase of chocolate chip cookies with bacon morsels embedded within, a play on sweet and savory. I still have mixed feelings about my palette memory of this one; however, like the deep fried twinkie, you have to try it once. We amassed 600 glassybaby in gorgeous duo combinations and found ourselves in a collective, yet evolving, tutorial on garnishing the boxes. Once 5 golden tickets were placed within 5 glassybaby gift sets, we needed to hermetically seal the boxes. This was the chosen procedure:
- wrap the product box with two bands of craft paper
- atomize just the right amount of spray glue onto the craft band...which is pure finesse
- artfully sprinkle glitter about the box/band top
- hot glue a red origami crane on top (cranes were handmade, in house, by the nimble fingered many...honorable mentions go to Marissa and Melanie)
Internal zen chant: "box, band, spray, sparkle, glue, crane"
At any point a 360 degree glance around our eve of Thanksgiving, Madrona, glassybaby might include:
- Christiana
- Kim
- Lee
- Valerie plus husband and darling girls
- Marissa
- Steve and Lucie (his sage Vizsla pooch)
- Christine plus husband and darling children
- Ryan
- Melanie
- and me
The wind up? All of the boxes were prepared and ready for Friday, including the batch being Fed Exed to New York City, as well as the batch going to Portland in Melanie's sleigh. MVP awards go to Christine and her entire nuclear family, Kim, Marissa and Melanie for the extra, huge, mile. If you purchase a crane gift pack in any of our stores and you discover a golden ticket within that says "you won, you won"...you are the recipient of a sextuplet of glassybaby, your pick. Another hot tip...if you are a resident of Washington, Oregon or New York, email us at: customerservice@glassybaby.com, make the subject: golden ticket, within your email provide your name, age, address and phone number. Five winners will be randomly chosen on December 23rd and notified by email that: "you won, you won." Each on line winner gets a sextuplet of glassybaby as well. Email us and good luck.
Other notes from the week. An email cropped up that was so disarmingly charming that I have to share an excerpt. Natalie was sleuthing out the name of a color combination that her mom had seen in our store. She knew our new, pacific rim, was paired with two other colors. What were their names? Here are her charming words:
"...I was wondering if you could tell me the names of the other colors that were paired with pacific rim, specifically the red one, so I can tell my dad which ones to order. You see, it's been my job since I was 15 to do his shopping for him. I love it!
I know I could just guess the color and she could go switch it for the correct one, but I also know how hard it is to part with a glassybaby, even if it is the wrong color. My first glassybaby was tom cat. I got it for Christmas in 2005 and it was the last color on the shelf when my husband picked it up. He told me to just go switch it for the one I "really wanted," but I never did. It's still my favorite.
Thanks for so many happy family memories!"
The two additional colors are pearl and happiness...with pacific rim...these three glassybaby comprise the timely gift set named 'Santa Claus is coming to Town.' Thanks Natalie...good luck elfing for your Dad.
End note. One of our great customers, from the hood, swished in on a mission to buy two double packs of glassybaby. They were to be prizes in a musical chairs contest. Her family has a long standing holiday tradition of gathering everyone in the family from ages 11 to 81 for a rousing circular session of musical chairs. Oh the places we go. Happy Holidays and more soon.
Until Next Time, Nicola
