We had our dazzling holiday party on Tuesday night and it was perfect.(See Ryan in the photo above surrounded by opulence.) It was perfect because someone greets you to take your coat. Perfect because the next greeter offers you a lemon drop cocktail. Even more perfect because bacon wrapped scallops come floating by on trays held by charming servers. Steve and Lee toasted our lucky mass. It was a lovely and perfect celebration of a wonderful glassybaby year.
Just the day before, on Monday, my day began at The Collegiana, a charming, solid, Seattle building, circa 1929. After years under the auspices of Safeco...it is now held and run by the University of Washington Medical Center. The Collegiana mission is to provide affordable housing for individuals being treated at the University Medical Center only blocks away. Upon entering the front door you quickly learn that The Collegiana exceeds it's mission of providing housing. It is a warm and soulful place that cradles individuals, and often their families, at their most vulnerable time. Sandra, Pat, Sherry and Blanca welcomed our glassybaby tribe in for a wonderful tour and talk.
The reason for our visit? Lee, in the name of glassybaby, established The White Light Fund in partnership with The University of Washington Cancer Center. glassybaby sales at our University Village store help fuel the fund. The question became how to ear mark the funds? Housing for individuals seeking medical attention is uncompensated by insurance and can present a difficult financial burden. Where the need is...the White Light goes. The Collegiana offers an important resource and it is our honor to take part in this effort.
Holiday density is keeping us at a steady, marvelous, clip. Our stores are bustling and joyful. One gorgeous holiday shopper came in for a single glassybaby. She explained that it was to be a Secret Santa gift for someone in her Bunko group. I am Bunko naive, so she explained that:
'It is a skill-less dice game that involves drinking wine and winning money.'
This is my kind of club. Our shopper stole away with a smile and a perfect red licorice glassybaby.
Another, completely amusing, transaction came from a web order. A son was sending his mom a generous and mirthfully thoughtful glassybaby trio of our gorgeous blue named calm sea. His note said:
"Merry Christmas Mom. These are called "calm." Calm. Caaaa-aaalm."
So funny and loving and calming. Happy, Happy Holidays and thank you for choosing holiday color with us. Drum roll for the announcement of 5 golden ticket winners next week. Thanks for your entries and good luck.
Until Next Time, Nicola
