A rousing thank you to everyone who braved the dark and stormy Saturday morning to join us for our latest, epic, seconds sale. The photo above shows Steve and I coffee triaging our dewy customers two blocks strong. It was quite a romp. By 2pm, after my reckless abandon lunch of pepperoni pizza and coke, I re-entered the sales floor, there were two dozen seconds left out of four thousand. We have decided the sale is supernatural. As I scribe this blog, we are the featured product on http://www.dailygrommet.com/, my latest favorite website. The 'grommet' vision is wonderful. Their range?...herculean. Where else can you learn about glassybaby and portable dog paw washers, all in the same week. As an inane aside, I find the word 'grommet' a very pleasurable word to say. I have a newly discovered love of 'grommets,' and we extend a huge thanks to Daily Grommet for today's feature...glassybaby. Solidarity found.
Back to the heart of matters. Recently, I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting 3 generations, who excitedly entered our Madrona store. It was Mom, daughter and grand daughter, Zoe. Zoe, all of 5 years old, was captivated by the glassblowing and the glassblowers. Adorably, she said: 'Look at that guy with all of those stamps (tattoos.)' Zoe colored pictures of glassybaby. She named one: "purpley." Her preoccupations in our store, perfectly allowed her elders to dive into glassybaby color shopping. We had the loveliest exchange. A deeply personal connection to glassybaby emerged. The mom (a.k.a. grandma) was visiting from Wyoming. It was her request to visit the hot shop. As she shopped, she discovered our meaningful duo named: "Sarah's Strength." She shared with me the loss of her 13 year old daughter, Sarah Jane, to Rhabdomayosarcoma. It felt like she had been beckoned to us. We were able to inhabit that moment with a certain beauty. She explained that her Sarah had possessed the most profound strength. She loved learning that her glassybaby purchase will send funds to pediatric cancer research. This indelible, human, intersection was so moving and I can easily visualize her first kiss and burnt sugar glassybaby, Sarah's Strength, lighting a special place in her home and heart.
Until Next Time, Nicola
