2010? What?...light years ago. We have all hit the ground running here at glassybaby and it is exciting to turn the New Year corner. A few honorable mentions from 2010...our distant year-cousin. In the season of giving, November and December 2010, glassybaby raised and delivered 41 thousand giving dollars to our beloved White Light Fund. Lee established this fund years ago. This money finds a deserved recipient...the Collegiana, a place that offers housing to individuals receiving cancer treatment at the University of Washington Medical Canter....no bill, just a soulful place for families and loved ones to land. The White Light Fund also fuels a vibrant series of free classes to oncology patients at the University of Washington Medical Center. Think of the healing power of Yoga, Art Therapy and even the simple pleasure of learning to knit..dollars sent for good, vitality and health. Many glassybaby giving checks have been signed, sealed and delivered. 2010 was a good year...thanks for helping glassybaby achieve giving. We will post updated giving numbers on our website in our 'News' section...stay tuned for details.
Our Seattle University Village Store helped a wonderful gentleman named, Jeff Berkman, choose signature Berkman glassybaby...his mission, a stroke of brilliance, was to give his wife Lisa one glassybaby a day during the celebration of Hanukkah, to form a menorah of candles. He departed from the traditional white and blue...opting for his wife's color palette of pinks and whites...he chose red licorice, our special edition, red glassybaby, for the shames candle. The end result?... beauty and meaning.
Jeff took the time to write our University Village Store an amazing letter of gratitude. (Thanks Courtney, glassybaby Varsity Sales, for helping, so expertly, with his color choice.) Jeff also sent images of the menorah glassybaby candles, lit and singing, in the photo above, slightly blurred in their second generation...I photographed his photo. At the end of his lovely letter...Jeff shared this message:
"To add a little special relevance between our story and your company, I am 10 months post stem cell transplant to cure Acute Myeloid Leukemia with which I was diagnosed in September of 2009. So, as you can imagine, our 2009 holiday season was a bit out of sorts. 2010 will hopefully prove to be a new beginning for us with many cancer-free years to come."
Thank you Jeff for your abundance and emblamatic New Year's message of hope and light. Your words are treasured by us.
End note...Ruby...shopped with her Mom at our glassybaby University Village Store and came up with this sweet interpretation of a lit glassybaby (see photo above)...I personally love her treatment of the heavy glass base...red...the choice of yellow for her glassybaby and the blue flame that catapults from the top of her artistic rendering. Ruby is indeed, not semi precious, she is precious. Thanks for leaving us an artistic treasure.
Happy, Happy, Abundant New Year to all. More Soon, Nicola
