The end of May, I think, finds Seattle the most beautiful and colorful spot on earth...the rhododendrons with blossoms the size of pie plates, the bluest skies you've ever seen, marshmallow-fluff clouds, azure Lake Washington glinting at Mt. Rainier in the background...the stuff that dreams are made of. I chose some glassybaby to reflect those colors and positioned them in the guest-room window simply to enjoy their exuberance each time I walk by.
All of us at glassybaby are pleased as punch over our founder, Lee Rhodes, having been given the "It's Always Something" Award by Gilda's Club New York City. Lee was honored for all she has done to support cancer patients over the years. Ten percent from the sale of each "happiness," a most delightful goodwill color, will be donated to Gilda'a Club New York City.
We're going on the road to Portland, Oregon! On Saturday, June 4th, glassybaby will be represented at the Remodelista Local Market, being held at the Schoolhouse Electric Company. We are pleased that 10% of market sales will go to support Ecotrust and their work to "inspire fresh thinking that creates economic opportunity, social equity and environmental well-being." It is a red-letter cause that deserves enthusiastic backing.
We send a fond adieu to a true glassybaby veteran of five years! Christina, of the University Village store, will be leaving soon, but we are happy to report that she leaves us to continue spreading her light: first as a service volunteer in India,and then on to medical school. God speed, Christina!
There is much excitement afoot over our latest goodwill color: "gratitude."
Ten percent of this resplendent color will go to support The Bone Marrow Foundation, which was founded in 1992 with a solitary goal in mind: to "improve the quality of life for bone marrow, stem cell and cord transplant patients and their families." Based in New York City, this fine organization's national medical advisory board includes doctors and nurses from the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. We wish to express our gratitude for the technology that enables these procedures and to the people who donate their time and money to this noble cause. Our hats are off to you.
And on a final note of deepest gratitude, this coming Memorial Day is the time to honor and remember all of those stouthearted individuals who have intrepidly served our country. We salute them.
